Protein Snacks

I am in love with Protein Bars! Unfortunately they don't love me. The ingredient "Whey Protein Isolate" in short means " MILK" and if you have an intolerance to lactose you may encounter the same sort of fate I did. So I decided to take my complaint to Pinterest to find the best recipes I could. This one so far was my favorite, I modified it to fit what I already had in my home.

Ingredients:

1 cup Old fashioned Quaker Oats

1/3 cup of honey

1/2 cup Bulk Nuts and Seeds (I got them from the Kroger Grocer)

3/4 cup of peanut butter

1/2 cup of chocolate chunks

Pour all of your ingredients into a bowl.

Mix with a spoon.

Roll into 15, 2-3 tbsp. balls and refrigerate for at least one hour.

When I make these again I will use a 1/4 cup of honey (they are very sweet) and a 1/4 cup chocolate chunks.
It also would lessen the calories by 50 per ball! These are right at 210 calories a piece, but could be modified down to 160 easily. I am going to go fruity next time too with raisins and craisins. That will eliminate the calories from the chocolate, but I love chocolate so maybe not. LOL

Let me know if you try them!

I Crave Easy!

I crave easy open plastic bags, twist cap calories, and oh so yummy already baked goods. My love affair with easy began my Freshman year of college; it was my first time truly being busy and having a healthy diet was not on my priority list. I ate a lot of fast food and processed sugar and soon it was all I craved! By the time I realized a change was needed, I was already addicted to the easy lifestyle. I gravitated towards the quick fix diets that promised incredible results in a short amount of time. I took diet pills, caffeine pills, stool softeners, purchased several exercise programs and had a series of colonics. I once bought an exercise program that promised results by working out while sitting in a chair (no joke), the mailman laughed at me when I paid to return it. I rolled my eyes at any program that encouraged me to take my time and do it slowly; I wanted a quick result...I craved easy.

The hard part is that the craving hasn't changed; I'm just older and wiser now. I've purposed to not be in a rush. I have accepted that what I see in the mirror is a consequence of easy, and finally, I am willing to do it the slow way, the way that requires focus, effort...the way that will last a lifetime. I'm so glad to be able to do this with my sisters, we've all decided to change our lives and we hope we inspire you.

#MONDAY MUNCHIES

One of my favorite, not so guilty pleasures is PIZZA!! I mean I absolutely love carbs ya'll.
I have bought this crust for about 6 years now it's Mama Mary's Whole Wheat crust and its super thin!
When I make this pizza I start with the thin crust and top it "like a salad".

Ingredients:
1 Mama Mary's Whole Wheat Crust
1/4 cup of plain tomato sauce
1/2 cup of Low Moisture Skim Mozarella Cheese
3-4 cups of spinach
1 cup of multi colored bell peppers
(be creative with your toppings, sometimes I add meat and mushrooms)
Olive oil (to drizzle)
Ground Pepper
Crushed Red Pepper
Oregano

I start with the crust and top it with the tomato sauce. I then sprinkle the cheese across the top and top with whatever veggies I'd like. Finally, before I pop it into the oven I drizzle the olive oil (maybe a tablespoon), ground pepper, crushed red pepper and oregano.
It goes into the oven at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
To me it's perfect when the spinach has wilted and the crust is nice and brown!
This entire pizza serves 3-4, but if you were feeling super hungry this whole thing would set you back 600 calories. (That's the average for your chain pizza joints 2 slices)
Try it out, it's amazing.

This recipe was prepared for me by my husband and the boys in my home. I don't have all of the details, but it was so yummy!
It is called pineapple fried rice and it was expertly served in this pineapple boat.
What's inside?
White rice (you could always swap for brown), fresh chopped pineapple, peas, carrots, chicken and soy sauce. The best part was it was only 9sp.
You totally have to check this one out.

Friends and Family Friday!

I did a treadmill workout that Nadine posted! It was tough but my friend Sharde and I really enjoyed it.-SM

My husband is my biggest motivation! He keeps me in line with my eating and exercise. Most of all he loves me just like I am, big or small.-EC

These kids are such a big part of my "WHY". I take them to their swim team at 630am (it's summer y'all) and they swim from 7 until 840. Right after we are finished we go immediately to the gym for two hours. They never complain, they are just as invested in my goal. Get your friends and family together, get healthy along with one another!-NR

Thoughtful Thursday

Sometimes life is all about passing and failing, let's change that. Let's make life about living. Living the best we can, while we can. Never give up on yourself.

Workout Wednesday

These workouts are amazing!
The colored one is a walking workout, you don't adjust the incline but the speed is variable.
The second workout is intense with the incline,I adjust the speed to make it manageable for me while pushing myself!
On Tuesday I did these back to back and it was so tough, but I felt so good when I finished.
What are you doing today?

Monday Munchies!

Sometimes you crave sugar. Not an artificial substitute, the pure white cane sugar and yes the sugar that is bad for you. This is a great go to when you are craving something sweet. This is an incredible fruit salad. The best thing about fruit salads is that you can put whatever you have on hand and in this case I literally emptied the fridge! -NR

Lunch is such a great meal but can get so monotonous, I mean how many salads can a person eat? I try to change up the traditional tomato (which I don't like at all) with a sweet strawberry. Topped with a basalmic you will be surprised at how delicious this is!! I paired mine with our leftover salmon that I pan seared and finished in the oven and an ounce of shrimp. If you are at home like me and have access to a stove treat yourself to a warm meal every once in a while. -NR
Lastly, I have been addicted to this smoothie now that strawberries are in season.
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup almond milk
1/4 strawberry Greek yogurt
1 scoop of protein powder
It's Oh So Delicious!!
If you prefer a thicker smoothie just add more ice.
I usually share this with my daughter, it's her favorite!
